Ten teams competed in the Tournament of Champions slo-pitch tournament which ran last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the baseball diamonds in Sioux Lookout.
The A-side final was Sliders vs Westland Wranglers. The Sliders won 23-11.
The B-side final was Banshees vs Gym Class Heros. The Banshees won 19-17.
Red Skins team member Colleen Savage said she was happy to have the opportunity to play with six of her children and her grandson.
Tournament organizer Jazzy-Faye Kabestra-Savage shared, “Next year we will do the tournament either in August or July.” Kabestra-Savage thanked all of the sponsors who kindly donated to the tournament. Kabestra-Savage said, “We are hoping to get more sponsors next year, so it won’t cost us so much out of our pockets.”
Kabestra-Savage concluded, “This tournament had an awesome turn out. All the teams said they will be back next year. This is our first year. It is going to be a new, yearly tournament but this time when it’s warmer we are hoping for a three-day tournament on a long weekend with 16 teams, that’s what we are hoping for.”
Tammy Elias of the Westland Wranglers commented, “It was a wonderful game and it’s been a great weekend, very well put together. Elias concluded, “I appreciated Sioux Lookout hosting it.”
Mike Medwid of the Westland Wranglers went on to comment about the games, “It is nice playing a close game, it was a lot of fun and Jazzy has done a wonderful job running the tournament, especially with a team dropping out last minute and having to rearrange everything… A big thank you to Jazzy for organizing everything.”
