SMPS, SHS host open house events

Sioux Mountain Public School and Sacred Heart School held open house events on Sept. 19, inviting parents to drop by the schools.
Gabrielle Landheer, Acting Vice-Principal at Sioux Mountain Public School, shared, “The school welcomed their community partners such as the OPP and Firefly here to set up booths, as well as KPDSB’s HR department promoting job opportunities within the school. Sioux Mountain’s staff was excited to welcome our families for the 2023-2024 school year and welcomed 62 families!”
Chilli and bannock were provided by the grade 7/8 classes. Visitors were invited to enter their names for door prizes during the open house, with winners being Boston Hoey and Arielle Sakchekapo.
Provincial Constable Graeme Desjarlais from the Sioux Lookout OPP Detachment took part in the open house at Sioux Mountain Public School and shared, “Cadet and Uniform members of the Sioux Lookout OPP were happy to participate in the Sioux Mountain Public School parent teacher night. Officers handed out activity books and stickers for students as well as material for parents regarding online safety and how to talk to children about safe internet and social media practices.”
Sacred Heart Public School Teacher Jamie Caul shared, “I thought the open house was a wonderful way to meet our Sacred Heart families and let the students show their families all of the wonderful things we have done in these first few weeks of the school year. I saw so many excited faces and a lot of very proud young learners displaying their work for everyone to admire.”
