Memories and Celebrations of Life:
Dennis Ernest Hoey Sr
September 11, 1937 - May 13, 2020
Dennis Ernest Hoey Sr, Age 82, of Sioux Lookout passed away peacefully, Wednesday May 13th, 2020. After completing Grade 7, Dennis worked as a fireman for CN rail, as well as working for the Pelican Bills Ice Company. Then, in 1967 Dennis began working for himself in the forestry industry, and shortly thereafter founded D. E. Hoey Contracting, working there, with his sons Denny Jr and Greg until 1995. Dennis was known to be one of if not the hardest working man in the bush, and was the first to utilize a loader mounted hauling truck, while many of the old guys didn’t take too kindly to this “modern” equipment it allowed him to load wood self sufficiently, not having to depend on anyone else to make his living, just how he liked it. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, and regularly attended Sacred Heart Parish. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, along with watching the Toronto Blue Jays and the Winnipeg Jets, and he always looked forward to his annual Grey Cup trip with Harry, Kenny, Lenny and Ralph. Preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Hermina Hoey, brother Larry, his sister Doris and his wife Marnie. He is survived by 2 sons Dennis Jr (Gayle) and Greg (Pam); daughter, Christine; 2 grandsons, Austen and Harrison; Granddaughter, Kristen; beloved dog, Mattie; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre, 1 Meno Ya Win Way, Sioux Lookout, ON P8T 1B4.
