Cedar Bay Trail Co and the Friends of Cedar Bay invited people to visit Cedar Bay on August 6 to participate in a Cedar Bay Family Adventure Course.
Four teams took part in the Cedar Bay Family Adventure Course.
Event organizer Yoko Schreiber shared the results of the event, “Team McCord was the first out of the gate, showed great spirit and on-site fan base. Team Hoftyzer was at the top of their game and completed the course in the fastest (unofficial self-reported) time. The all-female Culham team showed the most grit and had big smiles. The all-male Glenn and Culham team was a nail-bitter and most entertaining with mechanical bike failures, tipped canoe, and flowing hairstyles.”
She further shared, “This is this first time hosting this event. It gets people out into nature and out to Cedar Bay. The event is a run on the trails and along the trails are blueberry rocks painted and hidden for competitors to find and enter the number in a raffle. Adeline Culham won the draw ($50 gift card). The second portion of the event was a bike on the bike trail and then a paddle around the island.”
Schreiber explained that Justin Bell, a local resident, made the medals (from recycled wood from his grandmother’s piano).
Schreiber added, “The Walton Family painted the medals with blueberry motifs and the McCord Family painted the rocks hidden along the running trail. It was truly a community event.”
Schreiber co-hosted the event with Bobbi Roberts, who is the chair of Friends of Cedar Bay.
Roberts said, “Beth Dasno helped with registration and Florence Woolner opened Cozy Cabin for the finishers!”
Roberts concluded, “It was a great event that showcased the beauty and versatility of Cedar Bay and we had so much fun. We are thinking of running a winter event in honor of Gary Goldthorpe, who recently passed and was a great supporter of Cedar Bay.”
