Clean, gently used articles of clothing which can help keep people warm are being collected by Sioux Lookout’s Emergency Shelter and the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre on their behalf.
Emergency Shelter Executive Director Tana Troniak said items of clothing the shelter is looking for include clean, gently used footwear, sweaters, jackets, mitts, hats, gloves, and socks.
People can drop off donations at the former Queen Elizabeth District High School on Fair Street.
Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre Executive Director Ashely Edwards said donations of clean, gently used warm clothing are always welcome at the Friendship Centre, “especially during the cold winter months and we work very closely with the emergency shelter as well as supportive housing.”
In another act of giving, the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre will be delivering Holiday Food Hampers to help everyone have a wonderful Christmas.
The deadline to apply for a hamper is Dec. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
“We will be delivering throughout the community between the 16th and 19th of December,” Edwards shared. “The last count we had, we had 174 applications so far, so we’re looking to definitely be delivering at least 200 hampers to the community this year.”
She shared, “A hamper will include not only everything you need for a complete Christmas dinner, turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, but we also try to include some other items to help people get through the Christmas season. We do a lot of snacks and items for kids who are staying at home.”
Holiday Food Hamper application forms can be found on the Nishnawbe- Gamik Friendship Centre’s Facebook page, or people can pick up an application form from the centre.
