Traffic stop leads to multiple drug charges

Three Sioux Lookout residents are facing multiple charges following a traffic stop by members of the Sioux Lookout detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police on Highway 72.
Police shared in a Feb. 8 media release, “On February 7, 2024, members of the Sioux Lookout detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop for speeding. The passenger, who is known to police, had a warrant for their arrest.
“Further investigation revealed the three occupants were transporting a large amount of suspected illicit substances including cocaine and methamphetamine. Canadian currency and items associated with drug trafficking were seized along with multiple cell phones and a motor vehicle.”
A 32-years-old Sioux Lookout resident has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Methamphetamine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Speeding 1 - 49 km/h over the posted limit
A 27-years-old Sioux Lookout resident has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Methamphetamine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
A 51-years-old Sioux Lookout resident has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Methamphetamine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Two of the accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Provincial Court on Tuesday, March 5, to answer the charges. The other individual had a court appearance on Feb. 12.
