A spontaneous decision, while travelling back to Ontario from Alberta after filming an episode, landed Amanda Lynn Mayhew and her wolf hunting partner, Jenny Tiboni at the Silver Dollar Inn (approximately 75 kilometres from Sioux Lookout) last week, to shoot for a wolf hunt episode. Since 2017, Mayhew has been keeping her fans intrigued with outdoor adventures through her business Just Hunt, which includes her TV Series, THAT Hunting Girl, aired on the Sportsman channel.
Mayhew said, “Wolf hunting is important to the conservation part of hunting because it’s predator control and there are a ton of wolves in northern Ontario.” She said that they have a bait site set up and have been out every day. “I’m a do-it-yourself hunter. I go out there, I scout, I do the work, I process the animals, I clean them, I butcher them, I do everything myself and that’s very inspiring and empowering to other women in the world.”
Working towards conservation, education, empowerment and hunting heritage, Amanda Lynn Mayhew is one tough outdoorswoman from a small town in Northern Ontario. Born in Manitouwadge to a family of hunters and anglers, she is no stranger to the industry.
Mayhew has embraced her roots of being raised to love the outdoor life and directed her passion to spread awareness and create opportunities for those women and children who haven’t had the opportunities to learn. She said, “I think it’s important because women are the bearer of our children and our children are our future. To be able to have strong empowering, independent women to be able to participate with their husbands, boyfriends or families and bringing their children out and educating them on what the outdoors can bring to them and learn about the outdoors and conservation and sustainability is just going to continue our heritage and where we came from and also put meat in their freezer.”
Mayhew said that she has completed her production schedule for the year and is working on the schedule for next year. She said that she will “Return in 2021 to resume hunting adventure in Sioux Lookout. Sioux Lookout is another place that I have never been hunting or fishing previously and I think it’s a beautiful community and that expanding my horizons in northwestern Ontario is just part of who I am.”
The wolf hunt episode will air on the Sportsman Channel in April.
