The Sioux Lookout Lions Club and Sioux Lookout Girls Guides were the top two teams in this year’s Take Pride Community Wide trash pick-up contest organized by the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce.
The Lions collected 33 bags of garbage and the Girl Guides collected 21.
Six teams took part in the trash pick-up campaign, which ran from April 20 to May 31.
Sioux Lookout Lions Club Secretary List Larsh shared, “Our newest Lion, Leslie Legros (Kenora Lion transfer), spearheaded our spring clean-up campaign. The environment is one of our focuses for Lions and each year we typically do two community clean ups. This year there were six Lions available on our clean-up day and we collected 33 bags of garbage, including large items that couldn’t be bagged. We commend all the individuals and groups that got out there this year to help make Sioux Lookout look great!”
Sioux Lookout Girl Guides representative Tyance Fiddler shared, “The girls are thrilled that they came in second. Our group of 13 Girl Girls spent one of our meetings picking up 21 garbage bags of garbage. The girls earned their “Our Shared Planet” badge that is given for an activity promoting care and stewardship of our planet. The girls plan to celebrate their winnings with an end of year pizza party.”
The Chamber of Commerce thanked everyone who participated in the annual clean-up initiative, as well as the Municipal Public Works Department for their assistance during the campaign, which saw approximately 100 bags of garbage and other pieces of litter collected from around the community.
