Supporting local firefighters

The staff and management of The Forest Inn and Conference Centre, as well as the Sunset Inn and Suites, held their annual community appreciation event on April 13, this year showing their appreciation to local firefighters with a free community breakfast.
Firefighters and community members were treated to a complimentary breakfast featuring pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausages, home fries, along with coffee, tea, juice, and water.
Digvijay Singh, Hotel Manager of The Forest Inn & Conference Centre, shared, “While attendance is free, optional donations will be accepted, and we will be matching every dollar received to further support our firefighters.”
Funds have been raised for the new MRI at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre as well as for the Sioux Lookout Food Bank at past year’s community appreciation events.
Sioux Lookout Fire Chief Jeremy Funk said of the gesture, “I think it’s great. It’s definitely appreciated. We were very surprised when we got the phone call that they had decided to donate to the firefighters’ association. The funds raised will go towards equipment that we don’t otherwise have the ability to acquire through the budget or something additional that we want that lets us better serve the community.”
Funk added, “Its been a great showing of people this morning. Donations have been incredibly generous, as Sioux Lookout is. We really appreciate the gesture, the work, the effort that went into running this.”
The community appreciation event was held in the Rainforest Room at the Forest Inn & Conference Centre.
