Special Council Meeting slated for Feb. 1 to review 2024 Municipal Budget

The 2024 Municipal Budget will take centre stage at a Special Council meeting on Feb. 1, which will be held at 5:30 p.m., in Council Chambers, at the Municipal Office in Sioux Lookout.
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout shared with The Bulletin, “The Municipality is working to bring forward a budget that is reasonable in light of many uncontrollable pressures, including the ongoing property assessment “freeze” imposed by the Provincial Government, ever-increasing insurance costs, rising policing and social service-related costs, among others. Our elected officials also continue to work hard to lobby the Provincial and Federal orders of government for the financial and other resources to address service and programming gaps in our community – that are the responsibility of those orders of government – and are so urgently required in our community.”
Asked if any public meetings are planned for the 2024 budget process, or if all discussion would happen during council meetings, the Municipality informed, “Council Meetings are open to the public, and livestreamed on our website and YouTube channel. As always, we encourage the public to observe these proceedings, as one way of keeping informed of Council’s deliberations and decisions.”
Asked the best way for the public to provide input into the 2024 budget process, the Municipality informed, “Members of the public are welcome to submit input to our Treasurer, or to any Member of Council.”
The Bulletin also inquired if there would be an opportunity for the public to review any of the budget documents and when those documents might be available, “As always, budget documents will be available at the Municipal Office (at the Customer Service Desk) and on our website closer to the date of the first budget meeting on February 1st,” The Municipality informed.
