The Sioux Lookout Gymnastics Club wrapped up its season with a year-end show on April 5 at the Sioux Lookout Recreation Centre.
Gymnasts of all ages showed their families and friends what they had worked on this season and executed skills they had focused on.
Sioux Lookout Gymnastics Club Board Member Bryan Neufeld said this past season went very well.
“The gymnasts improved quite a bit throughout the season,” he said.
Looking back on the season he commented, “We introduced a couple new elements this year that were the rings and the pommel horse, as well as we tried to have a much more structured approach to even the Kindergym aspect so that we really focused on developing core skills for the gymnasts.”
Commenting on the year-end show he said it allowed gymnasts to show their families and friends, “What they’ve learned over the year, offer some opportunity to highlight the unique skills of each gymnast… but really show off the things they had focused on throughout the year as well as some coordinated group routines and show that aspect.”
Gymnast Adrina Bijo said she enjoys gymnastics because, “I get flexible and I can show my skills.”
This was her first year in gymnastics and she said she felt she learned a lot. Her favourite part of gymnastics was practicing on the balance beam.
This was Olivia Genge’s fourth year in the gymnastics program.
She said she enjoys gymnastics, “Because we get to do stuff and learn about gymnastics.”
“I like doing the trampoline and the bars,” she added.
Sisters Kenzie and Addley Dinsmore said they enjoyed this past gymnastics season.
“I like doing gymnastics because I have friends. It’s something new every year and I always found the sport interesting,” Addley said. Her favourite aspects of gymnastics this past season were the vault and doing double minis on the trampoline.
Kenzie also enjoyed doing double minis and floor routines.
