Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series off to strong start

The third show in the Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series 2023-2024 line-up is right around the corner with Steven Page, a founding member of the Bare Naked Ladies, taking to the stage on Nov. 13.
The season opened with The Rowdymen on Sept. 22 and continued on Oct. 16 with the Sultans of String.
“The Rowdymen were fantastic,” shared Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series Committee Chair Alyson Martin. “They are obviously representatives of the East Coast and they opened up our season with only the true flair that East Coasters can do. They had us clapping and singing and just feeling like we were very much a part of their world, their performance. Each one, in their own right, is a magnificent artist and collectively upon that stage they just brought the whole East Coast to life.”
Award-winning Canadian global music group Sultans of String collaborated with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit artists across Turtle Island/Canada for their ninth album, Walking Through The Fire.
Their performance was a celebration of language and culture, but was also music with a message, “in the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and Final Report that calls for Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists to work together to show a path forward,”
Martin said of their performance, “It exceeded by expectations. I knew it was a really interesting concept with the Sultans of String collaborating with Indigenous, Metis, and Inuit artists and being able to have themselves on the stage, along with artists touring with them, and then allowing and making space for the other artists (who performed virtually) who it would have been impossible to tour with that large group, visually it just added so much to the performance. It was really moving. It was joyful. It was thought provoking and it really made the audience sit back and just take in a performance that many of them said they had never seen anything like this before. They were so thankful that they were able to be here and that they were leaving with many different feelings and thoughts, but just feeling really filled up.”
Commenting on Steven Page’s upcoming performance on Nov. 13, Martin stated, “Well of course, Steven Page, who is one of the founding members of the Bare Naked Ladies. At a point in his life, he ventured off on a solo career. It will be really neat to have him on stage with his musicians in tow. I’ve listened to some of his music over the years and some of his latest work, and I think I think the audience is going to be impressed with where his path has taken him.”
“We just really appreciate the audience members coming out, the custodial staff who stick with us through thick and thin, the school staff supporting our work that we do, and all of our sponsors and audience members who make it a wonderful night for everybody involved,” Martin concluded.
Entertainment Series shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and take place in the Sioux North High School cafetorium (subject to change).
