Report From Parliament:
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents,
The Prime Minister recently announced that Parliament will resume on November 22nd. While I’m looking forward to getting back to work in Ottawa, I’m disappointed that the House of Commons is not sitting sooner.
There are urgent issues that need to be addressed as we navigate the tail end of this pandemic and strive to recover our economy, not to mention a number of Bills that died when Prime Minister Trudeau called an unnecessary election this past summer.
Parliament needs to get back to work so MPs can properly advocate for their constituents.
Around the Riding:
While Parliament won’t be back in session for some weeks, I’ve been hard at work in the Kenora riding, meeting with community members to discuss local issues.
Last week, I enjoyed productive meetings with the mayors of Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Machin, Dryden, Red Lake, and Ear Falls, as well as the councils of Kenora and Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls.
I appreciated hearing about the unique concerns of each of these communities, from policing to housing to the need for improved recreation facilities. I was also happy to discuss opportunities to partner with the federal government on major infrastructure projects, and I will be pushing the government to fund these proposals.
I’m looking forward to visiting Pickle Lake next week to meet with Mayor Monck and local workers.
