Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
Putting Canada first means developing our resources—and Red Lake is well positioned to lead the charge. I met with Mayor Fred Mota to discuss the opportunities ahead as well as needed infrastructure improvements.
Canada First Plan to Secure Our Border
The Liberals have lost control of the border, and our neighbours have noticed. President Trump’s unjust and unjustified tariffs have highlighted Canada’s broken border. The result has been gun smuggling driving violent crime, and drug and human trafficking destroying lives.
49,000 Canadians have died of opioid overdoses in the last 9 years with many of the deadly drug ingredients coming in from other countries. In British Columbia, police recently discovered a superlab containing enough fentanyl and materials to kill 95 million people.
Only 1% of shipping containers are inspected coming into our country, allowing drugs and guns to sneak through in the other 99%. After 9 years of this Liberal government, gun-related crime is up 116%, with the Toronto Police Association saying that 85% of gun offences use illegal firearms from the United States.
Canadian security services have identified 350 organized crime rings operating within our borders. Sixty-three of these groups have international connections.
Conservatives will secure our borders, stop fentanyl from killing our people, and put Canada First. Our plan will:
- Add at least 2000 border agents and;
- Extend CBSA powers along the entire border, not just crossings.
- Install border surveillance towers as well as truck-mounted drone systems to spot border incursions.
- Install high-powered scanners at all major land crossings and shipping ports. These scanners can see through walls of containers or vehicles to spot drugs, guns and stolen cars.
- Track departures so government officials know which deportees are in Canada illegally.
Liberal incompetence created this problem. Our common sense plan will fix what Liberals broke.
To pay for this plan, we will scrap the failed Liberal gun confiscation, which, despite spending 4 years and $67 million, has not taken a single gun off the street. Ending this scheme will save $600 million, money that will go towards securing our border against illegal guns.
Common Sense Conservatives will secure our border and put Canada First.
