Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
I appreciated the opportunity to speak with students at Beaver Brae Secondary School in Kenora about the democratic process and my role as a Member of Parliament.
I was also in Sioux Lookout to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the community’s public library. Congratulations to the community and thank you to the dedicated staff that provide this important service.
It was great to join my Conservative colleague MP Garnett Genuis to meet with the Chief and Council of Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation about opportunities for the federal government to work in partnership with them to advance economic reconciliation.
The Carbon Tax Leaves Canadians Worse Off
After nine years of this NDP-Liberal government, life has never been so expensive. The recent update from the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) proves yet again that Canadians are worse off under Trudeau’s carbon tax.
The PBO confirmed that the carbon tax will cost the average Ontario household $903. The PBO also estimates that the federal fuel charge will increase the budgetary deficit by $1.5 billion this year and ultimately by $4.0 billion in 2030-31 as a result of a decrease in employment and investment income.
Trudeau’s inflationary taxes have driven up the cost of everything, forcing families to pay $700 more for groceries this year, while millions of Canadians line up outside of food banks.
Just a few months ago, Canadians discovered that the government has been hiding the fact that even their own internal numbers showed that the carbon tax will cost Canadians $30.5 billion by 2030. This works out to $1,824 per family in extra annual costs.
That was only revealed when the PBO told Canadians that the government had placed a gag order on his office.
It has never been more clear that the carbon tax is making Canadians worse off.
There will be a carbon tax election where Common Sense Conservatives will propose to axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime.
It is time for the NDP to stop boosting carbon taxes and protecting this costly government and allow Canadians to vote in a carbon tax election so Canadians can choose to axe the tax and bring home a Common Sense Conservative government.

I thought, this afternoon, of that old boyhood shout out at the end of a dusky evening game of hide and go seek in 1950s Vermont...
