Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo MP, Kenora, Riding
Dear Constituents
I was honoured to take part in Grand Council Treaty 3’s events on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour and commemorate the children who never made it home and the survivors of residential schools. I am committed to working with all MPs to work towards true and meaningful reconciliation.
Liberals Ignoring the Will of Parliament and Canadians
In June, the House of Commons passed a Common Sense Conservative motion ordering the Trudeau Government, the Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), and the Auditor General to hand over all documents related to the Prime Minister’s Green Slush Fund to the RCMP within 14 days.
They have refused to do so, ignoring the will of Parliament and of Canadians. Conservatives have proven that the privileges of Parliamentarians were violated by the government’s refusal, and we have tabled another motion to bring more serious action against the government.
The Auditor General of Canada found that Trudeau has turned the SDTC into a slush fund for Liberal insiders. At least $300 million was paid out in 180 cases of conflicts of interest.
Justin Trudeau’s ministers knew and refused to stop their friends at SDTC from engaging in corruption. A recording of a senior civil servant slammed the “outright incompetence” of the government, which gave $123 million worth of contracts inappropriately.
The Auditor General made it clear that the blame for this scandal falls on Trudeau’s Industry Minister, Francois-Phillipe Champagne, who “did not sufficiently monitor” the contracts that were given to Liberal insiders.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Liberals ignored an order of the House to hand over documents. Last time, they went as far as taking the Speaker of the House of Commons to court to defy an order of the House.
Only Common Sense Conservatives will end the corruption and get answers for Canadians.
