Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
June 21 marked National Indigenous Peoples Day. On this day, we celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding achievements of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. As an MP for northwestern Ontario, I’m proud to represent First Nations of treaties 3, 5, and 9 as well as the Métis homeland.
Parliament Adjourned
Parliament has now adjourned for the summer, and I am back home and eager to meet with residents to gather feedback on the issues that matter to our region.
Our Conservative team has been working hard to deliver relief to Canadians and hold the NDP-Liberal government to account.
After 9 years, Canadians are struggling just to put food on the table. As a direct result of the carbon tax on farmers, truckers, and grocers, the average Canadian family will have to pay $700 more for food in 2024 than last year.
This Prime Minister has also added more debt than all others before him combined, with no plan to balance the budget or control his inflationary deficits.
On top of that, the government continues to raise taxes. They raised the carbon tax by 23%, federal tax on beer wine and spirits by 2%, and are now increasing the capital gains tax that will hurt doctors, farmers, homebuilders, and all small business owners.
Our Conservative team has fought against these tax increases at every opportunity and we will keep advocating to axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime.
