Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
After eight years of the NDP-Liberal government, life has never been more expensive. To make matters worse, on April 1st, they will be hiking the carbon tax again—this time by 23%—on gas, heat, and groceries.
This is just one more kick to Canadians who are already down, as the government plans to quadruple the tax on everyone who pays. Their inflationary carbon tax means a family of four will have to pay $700 more in groceries in 2024.
A Canadian food charity recently reported they expect a million additional visits to food banks in 2024, after record-breaking visits in 2023. Last year, 36% of charities had to turn people away because they were running out of resources.
People are being forced to choose between filling up their car, heating their home, and feeding their family.
On top of this, the NDP-Liberal government will be imposing another tax hike on April 1st—a 2% tax hike on beer, wine, and spirits. These tax hikes may be coming on April 1st, but Canadians know this pain they are feeling thanks to the government’s inflationary taxes is no joke.
Common sense Conservatives will axe the carbon tax, for everyone, everywhere, for good. But until then, the government must listen to common sense Conservatives, and millions of Canadians, and spike their April Fools’ Tax hike.
