Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
With Remembrance Day approaching, I encourage everyone to support your local Legion, wear a poppy and reflect on the sacrifices made by all those who have and continue to serve.
I want to wish the Dryden Eagles the best of luck in WHSFL finals this week. I also want to congratulate the Beaver Brae Broncos on a great season. It’s always nice to see a strong showing from our northwestern Ontario teams.
Fall Economic Statement
This week, the Minister for Finance released the fall economic statement. The plan the Liberals released does nothing to address the current cost of living crisis.
The current inflationary deficits the government is running, have increased the price of groceries, gas and home heating. It is simply unacceptable.
The government needs to take the current crisis seriously and take action to reduce the cost of living crisis. My Conservative colleagues and I had two demands for the government: cancel planned tax hikes on gas, groceries and home-heating, and stop their reckless spending.
Unfortunately, all the government proposed in their economic statement was more of the same tax and spend policies that are making it difficult for Canadians to get by.
On Friday, I had the opportunity to ask the government why they wouldn’t take the serious financial challenges Canadians are experiencing seriously. But I received no answer.
My colleagues and I will continue to advocate for the government to take pragmatic measures to reduce cost of living.
