Rec. Centre calling on community for volunteers

The Sioux Lookout Recreation Centre is reaching out to the community in search of needed volunteers.
Administrative assistant Nicole Cook explained that they’re looking for volunteers, whether it’s community members or high school students, to help out with a packed week of March Break programming.
“Right now, we’re looking for volunteers for our March Break camp that we’re holding…So basically we just need people who are willing to volunteer for the week of March 11 to 15 and help out with any of the programs that we’ve set up with the kids,” she said.
“We’re trying to work closely with other community businesses. I know, through Fresh Market Foods, we’re going to be doing a pizza making class. We’re also planning on doing a movie day in the gym here, skating, curling, Cedar Bay visits, yoga classes, the Senior’s Centre is going to teach the kids how to play pickleball, painting classes, crafts, fire department visit, police station visit, and a Public Library visit. We’re really trying to jam pack our week for the kids,” she continued.
The Rec. Centre will also be searching for volunteers to help with summer programming and coaching for team sports.
“We just started advertising for the minor soccer and baseball, so we’ll be looking for volunteers for helping coach that as well,” said Cook.
Whether you’re looking to help out in the community or simply need volunteer hours, the Rec. Centre shared that there’s always an area where they could use volunteers.
“Without volunteers we won’t be able to run any of those programs, so we definitely need people to come and support the community with that stuff…There’s always something that we’ll need help with, whether that’s volunteering that you need or we need,” she concluded.
If you’re interested in being a volunteer, call the Rec. Centre front desk at 737-1994 or email recadmin@siouxlookout.ca.
