OPP Report:
Sioux Lookout OPP remind drivers of safe driving practices
Members of the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorists to practice safe and responsible driving on local roadways.
Summer weather has brought some unsafe driving behaviours back to our local roadways. Drivers are reminded that speed limits are set to ensure the safety of all road users. Drayton Road, Sturgeon River Road, Sturgeon Meadows Road, and Abram Lake Road are all Class 5 roadways, with posted speed limits of 50 km/hr. Highways 72, 516, 642, and 664 have posted speed limits of 80 km/hr. As well as adhering to posted speed limits, drivers are responsible for driving to ever-changing road conditions.
As always, officers will be out patrolling local roads to educate drivers exhibiting unsafe driving practices. The public is also encouraged to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 whenever they observe a driver operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner.
Driving is a responsibility taken on by every person who operates a motor vehicle. When drivers are careless or reckless, their actions could result in serious injury or death. If caught driving in an unsafe manner, drivers could be fined, sent to jail, have their licence suspended, and have their vehicle impounded.
