OPP investigating bomb threats which closed multiple schools in Northwestern Ontario

Members of the Dryden, Red Lake, and Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments are investigating bomb threats made to schools throughout the Kenora District on March 6.
“On Friday, March 6, 2026, shortly before 7:00 a.m. CST, the OPP received information regarding bomb threats affecting schools in Dryden, Red Lake and Sioux Lookout,” Ontario Provincial Police shared in a March 6 media release. “As a precaution schools in the affected areas were closed prior to student arrival.”
Police shared, “The school staff, supported by OPP detachment members, conducted thorough interior and exterior walkthroughs at each site. No suspicious items were located during the walkthroughs. The North West Region OPP Crime Unit continues to investigate with assistance from the affected School Boards.”
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) shared in a March 6 Facebook post, “We wanted to advise families that KPDSB has been cooperating with the OPP to address the closure of schools in Red Lake, Dryden, and Sioux Lookout due to a received threat. As of now, the threat at all schools has been resolved.” KPDSB added, “We sincerely thank our partners in the OPP for their quick response and assistance in resolving this situation.”
The Northwest Catholic District School Board (TNCDSB) shared in March 6 Facebook post, “TNCDSB would like to advise families and staff that we have been working with the local OPP detachments in Dryden and Sioux Lookout to address the closures of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Schools due to a threat received. As of now, the OPP have determined that no threat at St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart Schools have been found.” TNCDSB added, “We sincerely thank our partners in the OPP for their assistance in resolving this situation.”
Ontario Provincial Police added, “The safety of our communities is our number one priority. The public is always encouraged to report any suspicious activity that could be a risk to public safety. “Anyone with knowledge of this incident is encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
