NWHU resuming infant hearing screens

The Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) has resumed infant hearing screening and new babies will receive a hearing screen.
Infant hearing screens that would normally have occurred in hospitals before babies were discharged were halted from March to July due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“A hearing screen is important to identify any babies who have hearing problems. Early identification is key to help babies get the help that they need. Hearing problems that are not treated can negatively impact speech and language development and learning. Children who are not identified early with hearing problems can also develop social, emotional, and behavioural challenges if they do not receive support,” the NWHU shared in a media release.
The health unit is asking parents who think their baby may not have been screened to call them at 1-877-553-7122.
