Mental Health Awareness was in the spotlight on Feb. 24 during a special Mental Health Awareness Game at the Hangar (Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena) between the Sioux Lookout Bombers and visiting Red Lake Miners.
Following the first period of play, representatives from the Sioux Lookout Bombers, Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout, and Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority presented a cheque for $2,000 to the Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation.
Proceeds from the sale of special mental health awareness jerseys, as well as the Rotary 50/50 raffle, made up the total.
The Mental Health Awareness Game was sponsored by Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority, who shared on their Facebook page following the match, “SLFNHA is proud to bring awareness to mental health as First Nations in the region continue to grapple with this crisis. SLFNHA is dedicated to providing programs and services that support those that are impacted and to work with partners to enhance wellbeing.”
Funds raised at the game will be used to support local mental health programs.
Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout President Andreas Kottschoth shared that while the Bombers secured a 4:1 victory in the match, the greater achievement was the increased awareness of mental health within the community.
