Memories & Celebrations of Life:
Obituary - Olga Chawrun
October 22, 1931 - June 8, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of our dearest mother, grandmother and great grandmother Olga Chawrun (Myskiw) at the age of 88 on June 8th, 2021 at the SLMHC.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons Bob (Darlene), Aaron (Mary) and daughter Michelle Farlinger (Jeff) and her 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Olga was predeceased by her husband Michael James “Jim” Chawrun, her sister Anne, her brothers Jim, John & Mike and her parents Stefan and Mary. Left to mourn is her brother Paul and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Olga was born in Galicia, Manitoba. She met her husband in Winnipeg in 1951 and they married in 1952. They moved from Winnipeg to Sioux Lookout in 1956.
Olga’s hobbies were her vegetable and flower gardens-she had a true “green thumb”. She also enjoyed picking wild berries, wild mushrooms and spent many, many hours fishing (trying to catch “Walter”!) at Frogg Rapids bridge, Superior River bridge, Vermillion River and the Causeway. Her love for cooking and preparing enormous homemade meals & the endless baking for her family & friends was her true passion. In the winter months she enjoyed playing board games and cards with her family and friends. She also spent many hours sewing and crocheting. Anyone that visited was always asked “have you eaten yet?” and even if you did that was just not good enough-you were fed regardless. If you left her home and your button was not popping open on your pants meant you did not eat enough. You never left feeling hungry. Her love for all animals was enormous-she fed them all too!!!
Olga was a very kind and generous woman who never asked for anything in return. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. She loved and took tremendous pride in her family.
A private family service was held on Saturday, June 12th, 2021 & Interment will take place at a later date.
