Romeo “Romy” Pierre Joseph Boissonneault, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 84. Born on December 17, 1939 to his mother and father Germaine and Lorenzo Boissonneault. Romy was the fourth oldest of twelve siblings, Noella, Hector, Yvette, Irene, Gerry, Pierre, Paul, Ivan, Guy, Cecile and Dan. His childhood was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Growing up in the lush landscapes in Bonfield Ontario, Romy developed a profound connection with nature that would last a lifetime. His early years were filled with adventures in the great outdoors, where he cultivated a passion for fishing and hunting. These activities were not just hobbies for Romy; they were a way of life that brought him immense joy and peace. His love for the wilderness was infectious, and he often shared these experiences with family and friends, creating cherished memories that would be recounted for years to come.
Romy was a man of many talents, he had an innate ability to transform raw materials into beautiful, functional pieces, and his craftsmanship was a source of pride and admiration. Whether he was building a piece of furniture with his chainsaw or replacing a floor with his son, Romy’s work was always marked by precision, care and love.
In addition to his carpentry, Romy was known for his prowess at the card table, particularly in the game of Cribbage. Every Tuesday afternoon, he could be found at the local seniors centre, where he relished the camaraderie and friendly competition. These gatherings were a highlight of his week, and his fellow players fondly remember his strategic mind and the twinkle in his eye when he won a hand.
Despite the geographical distance, Romy maintained a close bond with his family, making it a point to visit his brothers and sisters in Ontario and Quebec each summer until travel became too challenging. These visits were filled with laughter, storytelling, and the warmth of familial love. Romy’s dedication to his family was unwavering, and he cherished the time spent with his loved ones.
A man of few words, Romy was known for his quiet demeanor and thoughtful insights. When he spoke, his words carried weight, and his infectious “belly laugh” could light up any room. His sense of humor was as large as his heart, endearing him to all who knew him. Romy’s laughter was a gift, a reminder of the joy that could be found in everyday moments.
Romy’s life was a testament to the values of simplicity, loyalty, and joy. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a family who will miss his gentle presence and hearty laughter. His kindness and humor touched the lives of many, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife Sharon Boissonneault and his two children, Angella Evans and Adam Boissonneault. Angella Evans’ children Nicholas, Saunni, Tianna and Sarinna and Adam Boissonneault’s wife Laurie and their child Ryder, who were all touched by his kindness and humour. Each of them carries a piece of Romy’s spirit with them, a testament to the profound impact he had on their lives.
As we remember Romy, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and the beauty of the natural world. His legacy is one of warmth and kindness, and his memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.
On Romeo’s Birthday December 17th from 11a.m. – 3p.m, a Celebration of life will be held in his honour, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sioux Lookout seniors centre, a place that brought Romy much happiness in his later years. This gesture is a fitting tribute to a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life and shared that joy with everyone around him.
