It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Robert Buchan of Savant Lake who passed away at the Meno Ya Win Hospital in Sioux Lookout on July 28, 2024 at the age of 73.

Three grandchildren Matthew, Madison, and Jorja as well as five step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and his puppy dog Rex. He is also survived by his five siblings Ken, David (Marie), Sharon (Wayne), Glen, Sheila (John), and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Yvonne, his parents Edward and Irene Buchan, and his in-laws Daniel and Jessie Lyon.
Robert was born in Timmins, ON on March 10, 1951. His family moved to Savant Lake soon after he was born and that is where he spent the rest of his life.
Robert would volunteer by calling bingo at the Savant Lake Hall and he played movies on Friday nights for kids on the projectors. He had many jobs in his life, he packed fish on ice at Trappers Landing, helped build the airport strip at Rusty Myers, worked in Thunder Bay at Northern Woods Mill (docks), was a cook at Camp Kashabowie and at CN, before working on the Gang for CN. He worked at Great Lakes for several years, then MTO for many years, snowplowing, maintaining highways and breaking beaver dams. Robert also worked for Gary Steele Contracting, where he enjoyed running the water truck and Don MacGowan Contracting, snow plowing. Then he took early retirement to spend time with his family. Robert met his wife, Yvonne in April of 1974, and together they raised a beautiful family. They enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, blueberry picking, spending time with friends, family walks, rides down bush roads, and videotaping wildlife. Robert enjoyed western movies and loved his music; he was self taught with the guitar and the accordion. People would enjoy listening to him play. Robert and Yvonne enjoyed their family trips to Lewis Lake and Houghton Lake, camping will not be the same without you both.
Robert will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his family and his hunting buddies, who became a part of our family. We Love You Dad and will Miss you Forever!!
We would like to thank the Dr’s and Nurses at the Meno Ya Win Hospital, who cared for our father, during his time there. Thank you to everyone who sent prayers and gave support during this time of need. It is much appreciated.
