Memories and Celebrations of Life:
Obituary - Nina Barbara Dell
September 5, 1946 - August 16, 2020
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Nina Dell announce the passing our beloved mother and grandmother, at her home in Marathon, Ontario on August 16, 2020, at the age of 73. Nina was predeceased by her husband Roger (April 2020) and will be greatly missed by her son Scott Dell (Phyllis), granddaughter Tya of Sioux Lookout, Ontario and daughter Stacey Dell (Len), of Pembroke, Nova Scotia.
Nina was born and raised in Berrymoor, Alberta and attended school in Breton, Alberta. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Roger. They married in 1967 and raised their children in communities throughout the country, as Roger pursued a career in retail management and Nina working in banking for 25 years. They finally settled in Marathon, Ontario in 1987 where both enjoyed the friendships and community for over 30 years. Nina “retired” early but remained active helping Roger with his real estate business, her sewing business and a lot of dog sitting.
Nina’s Ukrainian upbringing on the family farm made her a creative, resourceful, hardworking woman who always did for others, without hesitation. She was devoted to her family and friends, always busy cooking, baking, cake decorating, sewing, gardening and crocheting. She was famous for her cabbage rolls, perogies, bread and vinertarta.
Mom was a strong, determined and independent Ukrainian woman, who stayed true to her caring and practical nature. She endured a lot over the last few years but was tough showing her profound strength right to the end.
Our family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to our friends and family. Your generosity and support during this difficult time is greatly appreciated. We would like to acknowledge the friends and neighbors of Nina and Roger, who were there to help Mom after Dad’s sudden passing in April. There are no words to express how grateful we are that you were there for Mom these last few months.
The family will celebrate the life of Nina and Roger in a private interment at a later date. If friends and family so desire, donations can be made in memory of Nina, to your local animal shelter, as she had a special place in her heart for all the dogs that touched her life.
Rest now Mom,
we will miss you.
