Memories and Celebrations of Life:
Obituary - Della Southall
August 16, 1929 - September 11, 2020
With her family by her side, Della Southall passed away on Friday, September 11 at the age of 91.
Della was born to Mary and Eddie Carroll in Sioux Lookout in 1929. An athletic girl, she excelled in many sports and enjoyed outdoor life in Northwestern Ontario. Della was very musical, playing piano and singing in award-winning choirs. In 1949, she married her soulmate, Gershom Southall, and in 1966 they and their five daughters moved to Winnipeg where Della lived for the rest of her life.
A loving wife and mother, Della loved to entertain and cooked many delicious meals for family and friends. She was very artistic and enjoyed sewing, ceramics and other crafts. She was fond of camping and travel, but her favourite times were summers spent at the cottage in Sioux Lookout. Together as a team, Della and Gersh created a stunning lakeside retreat where they entertained family and friends, and revelled in the lake life of boating, cookouts, bonfires, and swimming.
Della was an active and dedicated member of Grant Memorial church in Winnipeg and faithful supporter of Calvary Baptist Church in Sioux. Della and Gersh, along with other tireless couples, founded and operated the Happy Haven Bible Camp on Sturgeon River Road.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters Carol (John), Lorraine, Cindy (Gérald), Gail (André), and Brenda (George); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of Della’s life was held in Winnipeg on September 18 and she was laid to rest next to Gershom in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
