Appreciation for the Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series
I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series and, in particular, for concerts like the one we had on Tuesday, April 14, the John Wort Hannam Trio.
There is much talk these days about “buying Canadian” and the high cost of things. As a subscribing senior to the Entertainment Series, I paid approximately $13 last night for more than two hours of beautiful roots songs performed flawlessly by three fabulous Canadian musicians, one of whom, John Hannam, composed and sang them. The songs were fun, moving, topical and just “real”.
And this concert was just one of seven such high quality events during the year. These performances allow us to experience our country in music: stories of people, family, the land, hardships, and love, all brought to life with original lyrics and performed by outstanding musicians. Talk about value for money!
The volunteers who organize the Entertainment Series deserve special recognition. They create so much enjoyment for our community at such little cost. In fact, I often encourage them to raise ticket prices because where else can you experience this level of artistry and connection so affordably? And big thanks to the high school cafetorium where the Series takes place.
Over a year the Entertainment Series also includes drama, a classical concert, sometimes dance and even a symphony performance — something truly special for a community our size.
We are fortunate to have such dedication to cultural, artistic richness in our midst. I hope others will continue to support and celebrate this remarkable organization.
Sincerely,
Florence Woolner
