An Open Letter to the Community of Sioux Lookout
The Sioux Lookout Bombers are in urgent need of billet families for the upcoming season. Players will be arriving for our main training camp at the end of this month and we are currently short quite a few homes for incoming players.
Many pieces of our junior hockey puzzle are already in place. We have tremendous support from businesses and organizations in the community. Our fan base continues to grow by leaps and bounds and renovations to the arena are taking shape. We have enlisted the help of many volunteers that will help put on first class sporting events for the community of Sioux Lookout. However, if we are unable to find homes for our players will be unable to ice a team and all the work that has gone into bringing junior hockey to Sioux Lookout will be for nothing.
We are reaching out to our community with a plea for billet homes. If you have considered or would consider opening up your home to a young athlete (or two) please contact one of our billet coordinators, Nicole Carnochan or Ashley Cassidy. They will be more than happy to explain the roles and responsibilities of the team, the billet family and of the player. Billet families are not responsible for transportation of any kind. As part of our team culture, billeted players are expected to maintain a high level of respect for their host families and community and be a positive role model for kids and young adults in the home.
You will receive two season passes every season that you open your home to a billet and a monthly stipend to assist with costs of having the player stay in your home. And you will develop lifelong friendships with your billet and their family.
Billet families can be all shapes and sizes. You do not need to be ‘into hockey.’ Some billets have young children, some have teenagers and some are empty-nesters. We will have temporary places for billets to stay if you plan to travel during the hockey season. If you aren’t available to billet till sometime into the season, that’s ok too. If you take a billet, and it doesn’t work for you, we can make other arrangements.
So, if you think you have room in your home and in your family, please contact Nicole or Ashley and learn about how you can become part of our hockey family, email billeting@bombershockey.ca.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Board of the Sioux Lookout Bombers Jr. A Hockey Club
