Letter To The Editor:
58th Legion Athletic Camp
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 78 is happy to announce that once again we can sponsor athletes to the Legion Athletic Camp located at the International Peace Gardens in Manitoba. This was in jeopardy this year because the man who ran the Sports Foundation in Thunder Bay had passed away. We are lucky that someone new is heading that Foundation to help athletes from Northwestern Ontario. This year there are only four weeks of operation from July 14th to August 10th. Week One features track and field, gymnastics and advanced track. Weeks Two to Four features basketball and volleyball. Week Three includes soccer. Week Four includes wrestling, Team Basketball and a Multi-sport camp open to younger campers with instruction in different sports. There is a bus running Week Three with a pick-up in Kenora at 9 on Sunday morning. It is first come in order to purchase tickets for the bus. Some campers last year took advantage of the bus.
Each of the local schools has brochures in their offices with an application form that lists the programs and which week they are being offered. There also are brochures at the Front Desks at the Recreation Centre and the library. Included on the brochure is the application form and other information about attending the camp. You can also visit the website: www.legionathleticcamp.com or email: register@legionathleticcamp.com.
The local auxiliary wants to sponsor some interested participants to this great camp. Your application to the camp must include a $275 deposit. The Legion Ladies will cover the rest of the registration fee of $275, some gas money and the International Peace Camp’s visitors pass for up to four interested youth that apply in time. If you are interested in attending this camp, you need to write a letter to the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Box 992, P8T 1B3, by June 1st. You could also give your letter to any Legion Ladies member. Your letter must include your full name, age, address, telephone number and reason for attending the camp. For further information, call Sandra Lockhart at 737-2268.
