Sioux Lookout municipal council is set to approve a new zoning by-law that will govern the way local land development is approached in the future.

Good Samaritans turn on the lights
Two local good Samaritans have turned on the lights at Abram Lake. The Abram Light will shine at night at the original location on Riss’ Island. The lighthouse was moved in the 1950s to a spot on the east side of the island because a long electric line was installed to power the lighthouse.

AMO Convention – a forum for issues that affect northern municipalities
The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Annual Convention was held in Toronto late last month. Representatives of more than 45 northern municipalities attended the convention, the largest municipal conference in Canada.

Saffron surprise
Linda and Leo Anderson show off their four metre sunflower plants last Friday afternoon at their home on Penny Lane. The plants were started from seeds indoors in April and were transplanted into the garden May 17. The Andersons say they will use the bounty of their harvest to load up the birdfeeder this winter.
