Town budget good news for tax payer
For the fourth year in a row Sioux Lookout taxpayers have been spared an increase in the local mill rate.  Town council was fortunate it could bring in another zero per cent increase because of the town’s continuing growth spurt, finance chair Councilor Robert McClendon said Monday.
“We kind of lucked out,” he said.
“We’re still in a growth mode and I think that helped us.”

Late-breaking news
Lately, the question occupying the underheated brain cells of most Sioux Lookout residents has been:  when will spring arrive? (Or, in a more recent variation of the question, will spring arrive?).  Mother Nature has tantalized summer-hopeful citizens more than once with a brief blast of warm air or sunshine which quickly disappears, leaving her to enjoy a hearty laugh at their expense.

MNR cuts may end up in smoke
At least four of Sioux Lookout’s full-time Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) employees lost their jobs last week, and 20 fire crews were eliminated in a province-wide cut that local officials say may threaten the region’s fire safety this summer.
