Friends of Cedar Bay’s art contest aspired to connect participants with nature

The Blueberry Festival event ‘Connections with Nature’ art contest, conducted by Friends of Cedar Bay (FCB), invited community members to translate/express their connections with nature through their art submissions. 

FCB Chair Bobbi Roberts shared, “The ‘Connection with Nature’ art contest is a way we can continue to share the outdoors with the community, and we received some really wonderful submissions.” She added, “We believe that a connection to the more-than-human world is an integral part of a balanced life, so are always looking for events to promote time outdoors.”

The first place winner of the art contest was Shannon Brody. Second place was a tie between Maelle and Twylla Penner, and third place was awarded to Samuel and Naomi Langraff, who also tied.

The Hub, McTaggarts and Al’s Sports have sponsored the prizes for these talented winners. 

Roberts shared, “This was the second year we held the art contest. We had to get creative with a distanced event and unfortunately due to the storm, we couldn’t do anything at the lakeshore this year.”

Roberts shared that FCB aims to motivate people to enjoy the outdoors, further promoting it through the concept of their art contest. She added, “Friends of Cedar Bay’s mission is to revitalize the Cedar Bay facility so that it is safe and accessible to the public, and may be used for education, recreation and leisure activities by all.”
