Four people have been arrested after police seized drugs and replica firearms from a home in North Spirit Lake First Nation on Dec. 15.
“A search warrant was executed at a residential address on Airport Road in North Spirit Lake on Friday,
Dec. 15, by members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s Intelligence Unit, NAPS Emergency Response
Team, OPP’s Thunder Bay Detachment Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, OPP’s Sioux Lookout
Detachment Community Street Crime Unit, and OPP Indigenous Issues and Intelligence Unit,” Nishnawbe Aski Police Service shared in a Dec. 17 media release.
Police say the warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity in the community, and involved additional members from the North Spirit Lake NAPS detachment and members of the NAPS Emergency Response Team.
Police say that when they first arrived on the scene, “they found the residence barricaded and became aware that suspects may be destroying evidence connected to the investigation.”
“Despite this, officers successfully entered the home, located four suspects, and took them into custody.”
Following a search of the home, police say they seized a quantity of crack cocaine, cocaine, oxycodone, cash, paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking, replica firearms, ammunition and fireworks.
