Fatal plane crash under investigation

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sioux Lookout Detachment is investigating an airplane crash southeast of Sioux Lookout that claimed the lives of four individuals.
Police shared in a May 1 news release, “The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre-Trenton, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and Ministry of Natural Resources responded to a report of an overdue aircraft. The plane wreckage was located between Ignace and Sioux Lookout in the Kukukus Lake area. All four occupants were pronounced deceased.”
Trenton JRCC CCOS confirmed on Twitter on April 30, “Sadly, the aircraft was found crashed with no survivors. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those onboard.”
The Sioux Lookout Detachment was notified of the incident, involving a Piper PA-28-140 aircraft, at approximately 7:45 a.m. on April 30.
The identities of the victims are being withheld until they are confirmed, and family members are notified.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) was notified, and in a May 1 statement, TSB stated that it is deploying a team of investigators who will gather information and assess the occurrence.
