More than 40 participants, which included several families with young children, participated in a Family Fun Colour Run on June 15, organized by the Municipality of Sioux Lookout’s Recreation and Culture Department.
Municipal Recreation and Culture Department Manager Meredith Culham explained, “The event was part of the June is Recreation and Parks month initiative. Which is a movement that promotes the benefits of recreation and parks for physical, social, and environmental health. Other groups and organizations have been hosting various events throughout the month and this is one that the Recreation and Culture Department decided to host.”
A colour run, she said, “Run is a unique event that celebrates healthiness, happiness, and individuality. In this particular case we had staff stationed at various locations along the Umfreville Trail with buckets of slime and blasters. Individuals and families had the opportunity to walk or run approximately 2km (one way) and turn around while also getting blasted with coloured slime.”
Registration fees collected for the event covered the cost of the event.
“We feel it went really well and was well received by everyone,” Culham commented. “We are always looking at ways to improve and look forward to hosting this event again. We were also fortunate to have the weather cooperate for this outdoor event.”
“Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the Colour Run, we hope it was an enjoyable experience and we hope to be able to do more events and activities like this throughout the year. The Recreation and Culture Department also wants to thank Fresh Market Foods for providing the bottled water and fresh fruit. The Forest Inn for allowing us to use their parking lot for our “starting point”. Finally, A big thank you to all the staff who also helped make it a success,” Culham concluded.
