Confederation College celebrated its Sioux Lookout Campus graduates, alongside faculty, alumni, and family members, at St. Andrew’s United Church on June 13.
“I wanted to offer my congratulations to the graduates and to all the families that are here… There are many job opportunities in health care in Sioux Lookout so, if you choose to stay here, you will be welcome. If you choose to go back to your home community that’s not Sioux Lookout, good luck there to all of you,” shared Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance during the convocation.
This year marked the final year of Confederation College students attending classes at the 70 Wellington Street campus in Sioux Lookout. Starting in the fall, students will be attending classes at their new facilities, which are located in the recently opened Sioux North High School.
“It’s so exciting because we needed new facilities so to be able to partner with the school, and build a wing for ourselves, is wonderful. We’ll be having a grand opening this fall,” shared Confederation College President Kathleen Lynch.
“Your environment plays a big role in how you feel, so we needed a better environment for our students to support them and their learning,” she added.
Sioux Lookout Campus student Mary Spray was awarded with an Academic Award of Excellence and the Sioux Lookout Campus Award of Excellence during the convocation. She shared that winning the awards were a big surprise.
“It was shocking. I didn’t expect it at all… It’s a sense of relief. It’s been a long two years. A lot of hard work and a lot of reading, so I’m glad it’s done,” said Spray.
