Celebrating Christmas with our shared culture and custom
Every culture that celebrates Christmas has its own festive way to make the holiday special.
Last December 7, a Filipino cultural Christmas party transpired, hosted by a new ministry in town; Jesus Reigns Ministry- Sioux Lookout.
“In this busy season, we pause in gratitude for a moment where we can come all together, celebrating the unity by honoring certain traditions. We also take pride in giving commendation to our Filipino ancestors who came first to town and help their family bring their family”- JRM Host.
The guests had to grasp a bit of understanding about how Filipinos take Christmas season seriously, a big event with tons of food, music and dancing. Singing and dancing is one of a Filipino charm.
They kick off spirit of Christmas with decors and songs in the month of September and continues up to January. Decorations often go big too. With the “Parol”, a lighted star lantern, featuring prominently.
Above all the entertaining Christmas event, it envision that their shared identity breeds more unity within. May this colorful culture bring forth a greater community connection. The host reminded everyone as well the true reason of this season; Jesus, who embodies hope and love.
Merry Christmas to all!
