Chamber of Commerce to promote area with photo contest pics

The Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce wants to see your best winter photos.
Area residents are encouraged to get outside and snap some of the natural winter beauty that our area has to offer and submit their best images by March 25 for a Winter Photo Contest being run by the Chamber. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place photos. The event is being sponsored by the Chamber, Remedy’s Rx, and Dori’s Sewing Studio.
Christine Hoey, Past President and Treasurer of the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce explained, “We decided that we’d like to do something that gets people outside. We know it’s been cold, and people have been cooped up with COVID restrictions. So, we thought we’d do something where people could go out and get pictures of how pretty it is here in the winter.”
In the interest of getting the highest quality images possible, people are encouraged to avoid cell phone shots where possible, as Hoey goes on the explain, “We are suggesting that people give us pictures from a camera because we’d like to use the photos in promotional pieces. We have a lot of promotional things that we do, and we don’t have a lot of new or up to date pictures. The town has grown so much, and we thought it would be really nice if we had photos of family events, or scenery, or wildlife… whatever they want.”
With so many people already partaking of winter activities, Hoey expects the photo opportunities to be plentiful, stating, “I think of people out walking on the trial at Cedar Bay, or snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing, or out on their snowmobiles. There’s so much posted on Facebook with the wildlife and scenery in the area, some really beautiful shots. It looks really good if we can put some of it on the Chamber website.”
What happens to the entries once submitted? Hoey notes they’ll be put to good use promoting Sioux Lookout and the surrounding area. “We’ll use them in our promotional magazines, on our Facebook page, just to showcase what we have to offer for when people are thinking of moving here, or people are thinking of coming to visit. It’s cold but it’s really pretty at this time of year.”
If the public response to this contest is positive, Hoey expects there will be more in the near future, adding, “We are hoping if this contest goes well, we might be able to do a seasonal sort of thing where we do one in the spring and maybe in the summer.”
Individuals interested in participating are encouraged to call the Chamber at 737-1937 for more information, or to email questions or submissions to chamber@siouxlookout.com.
