Barricaded male arrested, charged in Eabametoong First Nation

An early morning incident in Eabametoong First Nation on Nov. 4 was brought to a safe conclusion.
“Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) working out of the Eabametoong First Nation detachment received a call for service in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Nov. 4, regarding a disturbance outside of a residential address in the community,” NAPS shared in a Nov. 5 media release.
NAPS shared that when police arrived on scene, they learned a male suspect had been making threats.
The male suspect had fled into a home as police arrived.
“While barricaded inside the home, the male suspect threatened to use a firearm. Police responded by containing the area and evacuating nearby homes in an effort to maintain community safety.
“After about two hours of ongoing communication between police and the male, the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident,” NAPS explained.
A 44-year-old Eabametoong First Nation resident was charged with:
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
The accused appeared for bail court on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
